Travoltage is a funny physics simulation tool for Windows. It deals mainly with static electricity. The application is pretty much a picture of a room with a carpet and a door. There is a picture of John Travolta stepping on the carpet. You can drag one of his feet on the carpet. If you do this hard enough, you will see how this action picks up a charge from the carpet. His body is then filled with blue molecules that move freely but are trapped in his body. If you drag his hand and make him touch the door knob, all the charges that he got from rubbing his feet are then released to the door. This is what happens when you feel like certain objects shock you. You are simply releasing static electricity. It is the same principle that makes a balloon stick to a sweater if you rub it to it.
This is a really simple and basic simulation of a physics concept. It can be used to teach a point to students or to simply illustrate what happens when you get shocked. It was built using Java, so it will run on any Java-enabled operative system or browser.
